East End Elements

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

East End Elements is moving to a new, semi-annual online format, with a print anthology published at the end of each academic year.

We accept submissions from undergraduate students between September and May of each year only.

Submission Requirements and Guidelines:

Fiction: Total length of submission should not exceed 20 pages double-spaced in 10 or 12 point font. Author may submit up to 2 pieces of short fiction.  Examples: Flash Fiction and standard short stories.

Poetry: 3-5 poems per individual. They are to be single-spaced and in 10 or 12 point font. Can be formal or free verse.

Playwriting:: Total length of submission should not exceed 40 pages. It should also follow general playscript format. Author may submit up to 2 pieces of dramatic writing. Examples: Monologues, scenes, and one act plays.

Creative non-fiction: Total length of submission should not exceed 20 pages double-spaced in 10 or 12 point font. Author may submit up to 2 pieces of creative non-fiction. Examples: Literary Journalism, memoir (should not be a traditional academic essay).

Art: 3-5 pieces per individual. Please make sure submissions are high resolution, minimum 300 dpi in .JPEG or .TIF file. Examples: Paintings, sculpture, graphic design, photography, or mixed media. 

East End Elements will attempt to respond to submissions within 3 months, with the exception of submissions received in May, which will not be read until the beginning of September. We accept simultaneous submissions but encourage you to please notify us if the work is accepted elsewhere first. 

Reviews of literature and visual art by students of SCCC are encouraged also! Feel free to write about good books you would recommend and why; the same applies for reviews of art exhibitions.
